Update: This story has been updated.

Before the Cowboys even finished the first half of their second preseason game, KaVontae Turpin most likely clinched his spot on the 53-man roster.

Saturday against the Chargers, Turpin returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown in the first half.

The kickoff return came in the first quarter, when Turpin broke free for a 98-yard touchdown.

Somehow Turpin one-upped himself in the second quarter.

Turpin returned a punt with just over a minute left in the second quarter 86 yards for his second touchdown of the game.

The plays were a perfect example of why the Cowboys took a flier on the former TCU product. The Cowboys are hoping Turpin can be a niche fit as an explosive utility player.

Despite being five years removed from his career at TCU, Turpin has created some buzz at Cowboys camp. Turpin spent stints in the Fan Controlled Football League, the Spring League and the United States Football League before joining the Cowboys the offseason.

Turpin has experience with explosive kickoff returns, returning four for touchdowns during his time at TCU.
