WATCH: Evan Carter’s grab, Jose Altuve’s gaffe make for chaotic play in Rangers’ win

Evan Carter continues to shine in October.

Late in the Rangers’ Game 1 win in the ALCS vs. the Astros, Texas held a 2-0 lead after a sterling performance from starter Jordan Montgomery. In the eighth inning, reliever Josh Sborz allowed a single to Jose Altuve, and Aroldis Chapman was next brought in for Texas.

The first batter he faced, Alex Bregman, gave one a ride that looked as though it could tie the game. The Rangers 21-year-old phenom, however, went back on the ball and was able to bring it in with a leaping grab just short of the wall.

Carter’s stellar play turned into a heady one from the defense as a whole when the middle-infield duo of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien recognized that Altuve, who was on his way to third by the time Carter caught the ball, hadn’t re-tagged second base on the way back to first. Seager flipped to Semien, who tagged second, and after a replay review, Altuve was ruled out.

What looked like a potential game-tying home run instead turned into a double-play for the Rangers, and a huge step in Texas locking down its 2-0 Game 1 win.
