NEW DELHI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam was left stunned after being caught by Australian skipper Pat Cummins at midwicket during the World Cup match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.Pakistan were cruising in their huge pursuit of 368 before Adam Zampa struck to dismiss Babar in the 27th over. Babar pulled the length ball at the stumps but the ball went low and Cummins came up with a spectacular effort to leave the Pakistan captain bewildered.Babar failed to make an impact with the bat so far in the tournament with just one fifty to his name in four matches. His scores read 5, 10, 50 and 18.Talking about the match, openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh both struck magnificent centuries to set up Australia’s comfortable 62-run victory.In reply, Pakistan reached 134-0 but were then bowled out for 305 in the 46th over. Both teams now have two wins and two defeats each.Warner had a narrow escape early in the game, surviving a leg-before-wicket appeal from the very first ball. He was also given a reprieve when dropped at the score of 10 during the fifth over.These opportunities paved the way for Warner to unleash a blistering innings, facing 124 balls and amassing an impressive 163 runs. Australia had been asked to bat first on a flat Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch.On the occasion of his 32nd birthday, Marsh celebrated in style, hammering a 108-ball 121. The opening pair’s extraordinary partnership set a new record for Australia in World Cup matches, reaching 259 runs by the 34th over. Their stellar performance was met with enthusiasm by the 30,000-strong crowd.
