The Washington Commanders will hire Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as their new head coach, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Commanders selected Quinn to replace Ron Rivera, who was fired following the end of the 2023 season. Washington’s selection of Quinn will end the NFL’s 2024 head coach hiring cycle.

Quinn, 53, has been the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. The Cowboys were ranked fifth in yards allowed, scoring defense and takeaways during the 2023 season. The Cowboys led the NFL with a combined 93 takeaways during Quinn’s tenure.

Quinn had previously served as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020. He posted a record of 43-22, including a trip to Super Bowl 51 after the 2016 season. That game was highlighted by the Falcons blowing a 28-3 halftime lead and eventually losing the game to the New England Patriots in overtime.

Quinn was the first significant hire by new owner Josh Harris, who purchased the franchise in July.
