Warriors’ Wiggins shines for Team Canada in Olympic qualifier

Andrew Wiggins has taken his talents to the Great White North.

Following a 2020-21 season in which the Warriors forward established himself as a true two-way player, Wiggins will represent Team Canada in the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Olympic qualifiers began this week, with Team Canada notching a 97-91 win against Team Greece Tuesday in which Wiggins led the team in scoring.

Picking up right where he left off with Golden State, Wiggins — or “Maple Jordan” as he’s often known — did it all on the court Tuesday.

Having played for Team Canada six years ago in the 2015 FIBA America’s tournament, Wiggins was asked how it felt to be back with the national team once again.

“It feels good, playing for, representing, and showing up for the country,” Wiggins told reporters postgame. “Most importantly, winning for the country.”

Wiggins joins fellow Warriors teammate Mychal Mulder on the Team Canada roster, with other teammates such as Draymond Green representing Team USA.

Both Green and Wiggins finished the season strong, and the Olympic tournament should provide both players with an opportunity to maintain their momentum heading into the 2021-22 season.
