Warriors linked to Raptors’ Siakam — would they trade James Wiseman?

The Warriors might be willing to part with center James Wiseman and the seventh overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft for immediate help, according to a new report.

The Athletic’s John Hollinger wrote Monday that there is a “widespread expectation” the Warriors will use the No. 7 pick and Wiseman, the No. 2 overall selection in 2020, to try and acquire an established player, with Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam listed as someone to watch.

Wiseman, who turned 20 in March, offered a tantalizing glimpse of his long-term potential as he averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 39 games for the Warriors this past season.

But with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all at least 31 years old, the Warriors’ championship window is closing and the desire by the organization to add another proven playoff performer to Golden State’s core appears to be increasing.

With Thompson progressing from a torn Achilles tendon and possibly back in action this calendar year, the Warriors, with Siakam in tow, could have a formidable starting five for the second half of the season — particularly if they could somehow keep Andrew Wiggins out of the deal.

This year’s seventh-overall pick was officially awarded to the Warriors at the draft lottery. The pick, acquired by Golden State as part of last year’s D’Angelo Russell-Wiggins trade, had been protected for selections 1-3.

Siakam, who just finished his fifth NBA season, was instrumental in the Raptors’ 2019 championship run as he averaged close to 19 points per game as an added threat alongside Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry.

Siakam has been Toronto’s leading scorer the last two seasons, averaging 22.9 and 21.4 points per game, respectively. He has three years left on a four-year, $136.9 million deal that has a cap hit of just over $33 million for next season.

The Raptors could be looking to retool their roster after a 27-45 season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2012-13. Toronto won the No. 4 pick at the lottery and could use that selection to draft a guard with Lowry a pending free agent.

The NBA held its draft combine in Chicago last week. At that time, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith speculated that 76ers guard Ben Simmons might be on the move after his disheartening performance in Game 7 of Philadelphia’s second-round series with the Atlanta Hawks. A Simmons-for-Wiggins deal could make sense on some fronts, as both players’ cap hits for next season are over $30 million.
