Warriors’ Jordan Poole called for technical foul for arguing a call that gets overturned
Poole #Poole
If you get called for a technical foul arguing a call that gets overturned, does the technical go away, too?
Jordan Poole and the Warriors found out the answer is no on Wednesday night at Chase Center.
Poole was hit with a technical foul for arguing an out-of-bounds call with 7:10 left in the fourth quarter. As Mavericks star Luka Dončić dribbled toward the Golden State’s bench, the ball went out of play and initially was ruled off the Warriors.
Even though the Warriors were up 26 points at the time, Steve Kerr and the Warriors staff decided to challenge the call, at Poole’s behest. The challenge worked, giving Golden State the possession of the ball.
But even with the foul call getting overturned, the technical stood as Poole’s first of the postseason. It led to the bizarre moment of Dončić going to the free throw line, but his teammates all watching the technical foul shot from the other end of the court, preparing to defend the Warriors.
Dončić missed the technical free throw, which surely led Poole and the Warriors to think the age-old basketball adage: “Ball don’t lie.”
Even with the technical against him, Poole was a key part of the Warriors’ 112-87 win in Game 1 against the Mavericks. Coming off the bench, Poole scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, continuing his strong showings on offense in the early part of each postseason series.
In 26 minutes, Poole also had a plus-minus of plus-15 in his time on the floor — even though he committed five fouls and had the technical foul called against him.
Poole and the Warriors will play Game 2 of the Western Conference finals at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the game airing on TNT.
