Playing for the first time at the new home of his former team, Kevin Durant had 20 points, six assists and five rebounds as the Warriors fell to the Brooklyn Nets, 134-117, Saturday night at Chase Center.
Stephen Curry (27 points on 10-for-17 shooting, 2-for-9 from 3-point range and five assists) saw his streak of games with at least four made 3-pointers end at 13 as the Warriors (14-13) went just 9-of-34 from beyond the arc.
Meanwhile, Durant and his high-profile teammates James Harden (19 points, 16 assists) and Kyrie Irving (23 points) put on an offensive clinic. The Nets (16-12) shot 53.8% as a team and used a key 16-5 run to take a 26-point lead midway through the third quarter.
Nearly two years since Durant tore his Achilles tendon in the 2019 Finals and signed with the Nets, Durant’s much-hyped return was void of drama or fans in attendance. Instead, the Warriors played a tribute video celebrating Durant’s three seasons and two championships in Golden State.
Before the opening tip, Curry and Durant had a friendly chat in warmups and Draymond Green and Durant came together for their familiar double-tap high five and hug.
Next, the Warriors will host the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday.
