Warriors’ Draymond Green follows Jayson Tatum to Celtics bench, pair engages in world’s most childish game
Tatum #Tatum
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green kept his head down and played basketball for almost the entirety of the Dubs’ 104-94 Game 5 win.
Almost the entirety.
But late in the fourth quarter, with the Dubs up 91-79 after outscoring Boston 16-4 to start the final frame, Green (8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists) did what Green loves to do: irritate.
Following a Celtics timeout with 4:40 to play in the fourth quarter, Gary Payton II walked over to Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who was holding the ball as the timeout was called. Payton put his hand on Tatum’s hip and his arm up as if he was still playing defense on Boston’s best player. Tatum brushed away Payton’s hand, then Green rushed over to again start to mime playing defense.
Tatum brushed away Green more flamboyantly and continued to walk to the Celtics bench with Green in front of him walking backward in the same direction, attempting to get the ball from Tatum. Tatum would not give him the ball, however, cupping it behind his back to keep it out of Green’s reach all the way until the pair reached the Boston bench where the entirety of the Celtics team surrounded Green.
Nothing happened from there — save for Green yelling to officials some sort of explanation — before Juan Toscano-Anderson arrived to escort Green and Payton out of the crowd. Because if there’s anyone who is a peacemaker, it’s Juan Toscano-Anderson.
Tatum scored just five points in the fourth quarter as he and Jaylen Brown disappeared going a combined 2-for-9 shooting with three turnovers and two missed free throws.
