WandaVision’s big Agnes reveal solves not one but two huge mysteries
Agnes #Agnes
WandaVision episode 7 spoilers follow.
In this week’s WandaVision, there’s a moment where Billy notices that Agnes is “quiet on the inside,” but fans watching back home were anything but quiet by the end, hollering and gasping at that final Agnes reveal.
Yes, we’ve had our suspicions for quite some time, but episode seven finally confirms that Kathryn Hahn’s nosy neighbour is in fact Agatha Harkness — and she’s the one who’s been pulling all the strings secretly from behind the scenes.
So who is Agatha Harkness, what does this reveal mean for the MCU at large, and most importantly of all, how do I get that ‘Agatha All Along’ song out of my head?
Who is Agatha Harkness?

Comic-book fans will already be aware that Agatha Harkness has a long, convoluted history at Marvel, but primarily, the Salem witch has acted as a mentor to Wanda, helping her discover the true magical origins of her mutant power.
However, the pair have also clashed in the comics too, most notably when Agatha wiped away the memories Wanda had of her children rather than helping her reclaim them from Mephisto (a horny devil guy who may still be involved in WandaVision somehow).
So how does the MCU version of Agatha tie into all this? For most of episode seven, Agnes continues her shady ways, watching everything unfold while knowingly interjecting at key moments.
However, it’s not until Monica Rambeau confronts Wanda that she finally decides to take action. Sensing that this suburban retreat might be at jeopardy, Agnes intervenes, pulling Wanda away from Monica’s meddling. “Young lady, I think you’ve overstayed your welcome… Run along, dear.”
We then cut to Wanda sitting inside of Agnes’ house. Not only are the twins noticeably missing, but ominous music starts to play as Wanda notices something isn’t quite right. After all, who would let a gross insect into this perfect utopia? (fans might note that Mephisto appeared as a fly in the comics…)
Agnes then directs Wanda to the basement, where the sitcom facade gradually fades away entirely. Underneath the house is a large church-like space filled with gnarly tree branches, bone relics, and what looks like an extremely powerful book of magic. Something tells us we’re not in Westview anymore…
Agnes then appears before Wanda, revealing her true identity: “You didn’t think you were the only magical girl in town, did you? The name’s Agatha Harkness. Lovely to meet you!”
What is Agatha’s plan?

As that jaunty little tune at the end reveals, it was “Agatha all along!” Which is to say, no, she didn’t create Wanda’s suburban dreamscape, but Agatha did swoop in to take advantage of the chaos (magic).
Through a hilariously evil montage — “And I killed Sparky too!” — we learn that Agatha has been manipulating events in Westview this whole time. She even faked being under Wanda’s spell when Vision found her sitting at the outskirts of town.
But what’s Agatha’s endgame? What does she stand to gain from Wanda’s pain? Well, it’s clear that the children are central to whatever plan Agatha is cooking up. Remember the shark advert in episode six? The one where it fed off a boy’s magic until he died? It’s no coincidence that Agatha promises not to “bite” Billy and Tommy when she takes them away.
In the comics, Wanda’s children were created with the help of soul shards taken from Mephisto, Marvel’s version of the devil. This made them a source of great power, one which he eventually decided to take back for himself.
Whether Agatha is working for Mephisto or just for herself, it’s clear that everything she’s done here is to ensure the birth of Wanda’s children. And now that they’ve finally grown into their powers, now is the perfect time for Agatha to use them for whatever spell or ritual she has planned.
While we’re yet to learn exactly what this might be, the new advert in episode seven strongly suggests that Agatha plans to traverse the multiverse somehow or tap into its energy. The key to this is in the name of the antidepressants being sold here — Nexus. In the comics, every single alternate reality that exists is connected by the Nexus, a cross-dimensional gateway where all of the multiverse intersects.
The advert essentially confirms this to be true in the MCU as well, particularly when it’s suggested that ‘Nexus’ can “anchor you in your reality or a reality of your choice… because the world doesn’t revolve around you, or does it?”
That last line in particular hints at something else fans have long suspected — that Wanda’s newfound ability to rewrite reality has messed up reality at large. Whether it’s by manipulating Westview or creating children out of nothing, all of this magic could potentially damage the fabric of space and time (while also introducing the likes of Deadpool and the X-Men into the MCU).
Or perhaps, Agatha will be the one to do this. By manipulating the power of Wanda and her children, the true Big Bad of WandaVision may be the one who messes everything up, to the point where Doctor Strange must intervene. We’ve known for some time now that Wanda will return in his movie sequel, the Multiverse of Madness, which implies that the events of WandaVision will be what causes this “madness” in the first place.
Is Pietro evil?
This isn’t the first time that notions of a MCU multiverse have been raised by WandaVision either. Back at the end of episode five, the X-Men’s version of Pietro showed up at Wanda’s door, suggesting that the multiverse may already be leaking in to this particular reality.
However, last week’s episode began to hint that this Pietro might not be who he says he is. Not only did he seem to know more than anyone else in Westview, Wanda’s brother also said some pretty messed up things while probing her for more information.
Agatha’s big reveal this week also confirmed that this Pietro is evil, as we see her manipulate him from behind the scenes. What remains unclear is where this Pietro came from exactly, and whether he is intrinsically evil or just under Agatha’s control.
If the plan really is to break open the multiverse somehow, then it seems unlikely that Evan Peters has reprised the same role from his X-Men movies. Instead, we imagine that Agatha has either conjured up this Pietro herself or has simply taken control of someone in Westview, much like Wanda has.
So even if this version of Pietro no longer confirms all of our multiverse theories, the Nexus advert actually reaffirms them tenfold. And regardless of all that, Wanda and her children should definitely remain wary of the latest addition to their family. As seen in this week’s post credits scene, “Pietro” is definitely not working on the side of the angels.
So what does the future hold for WandaVision? Wanda’s grip on reality seems to be weakening, which may be due to Agatha’s interference or just her own grief taking hold.
And it’s also important to note that there may be more to Agatha’s plan than just taking advantage of this situation. While working as a camera operator, Agatha asks Wanda a deeply personal question, one which hints at some kind of shared history between the pair which can only end in tragedy:
“Do you think maybe this is what you deserve?”
Let’s hope Agatha gets what she deserves instead, or Wanda’s perfect life may soon descend into a multiverse of madness.
