Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. nearly took out New York Yankees fans in the stands.

He unintentionally released his bat on a pitch, giving a lucky fan one of the most iconic souvenirs of all time — and, thankfully, no injuries.

Guerrero, nicknamed “Vladdy,” typically hits home runs but has never tossed a bat into the crowd before. In MLB, there’s always a first time for everything.

Though this instance was a scary accident, Vladdy’s been far from disappointing this season.

Guerrero is having his second-best season in 2022, slightly behind his 2021 season. He’s hit .282/.351/.509 for an OPS of .860 so far. In 2021, he hit .311/.401/.601 for an OPS of 1.002. He made his MLB debut in 2019 with Toronto and has been a promising player since, but has especially flourished over the past two seasons.

Vladdy is one of the best hitters on the team. Of all regular starters, he has the third-best batting average and on-base percentage. He also has the best slugging percentage.

The Blue Jays are also highly likely to have great postseason success. According to FanGraphs, they have an 87.7 percent chance of making it to the playoffs and a six percent chance of winning the World Series.

Guerrero is undoubtedly a major factor in their success, and though he had a slight error with his bat, he rarely disappoints.
