Virgin Media’s Karen Koster breaks down in tears as Ireland AM team surprise her with sweet birthday video

VIRGIN Media star Karen Koster broke down in tears this morning after Ireland AM’s sweet birthday surprise.

The team surprised Karen with a compilation of photos and videos from her pals, family and teachers ahead of her 40th birthday on Friday.

As Karen was about to present Ireland AM’s Spring Wardrobe, fellow presenter Tommy Bowe walked in to give Karen her surprise.

The Ireland AM team compiled photos from Karen’s school days, snaps with old pals and video messages from her closest friends and family members.

Karen struggled to hold back the tears as her closest friend wished her a very special 40th birthday.

Next, the presenter’s nieces and nephew wished her a Happy Birthday as Karen burst into tears.

The 39-year-old then went into hysterics as she watched old clips of some of her first weather reports and Ireland AM segments – including riding a horse simulator.

Karen once again broke down in tears as ex-Ireland AM presenter Ciara Doherty gave her a sweet birthday message.

KAREN’S SHOCK

Ciara said: “Happy Birthday Karen! I’m so sorry that I can’t be there in studio or be part of a big party to celebrate this milestone 40th birthday, but I promise when this is all over I will take you out, buy you cocktails and let you tell me what life is like being 363 days older than me!”

Next, after some graduation snaps of Karen, her teacher, Mr Byrne, came on to give her birthday wishes, followed by Karen’s daughter who sang her Happy Birthday.

Paul and Ciara Cullan were on the screen next – two of Karen’s drama teachers – and shared memories of Karen from when she was younger.

Dermot O’Leary also wished Karen “a great 40th” before pictures of the Virgin Media star flashed across the screen.

When the video ended, Karen collapsed onto the floor and said: “I cannot believe that!

‘BLUBBERING MESS’

“I am so stunned, I don’t have any words! So many people I have seen in 20 years – my English teacher Mr Byrne who was a massive influence on me, such a big impact, Ciara and Paul who used to teach me drama, the kids, my pals, all the lovely memories from this show!

“I cant speak, I’m a blubbering mess!”

She added: “Thank you so much guys, God I can’t believe it!”

Lastly, fellow Ireland AM presenter Alan Hughes came on to wish Karen a Happy 40th Birthday.

He said: “Hey Karen, I’m so sorry I can’t be there to celebrate your 50th – oops! 40th birthday.

“I so wish I could be there but presenter bubbles means I can’t but I just hope you’re going to have a great week, a great weekend.

“I hope everyone’s going to spoil you and I can’t wait to be back in studios with you and Tommy and give you a big virtual hug, love you loads.”

Karen told Tommy: “We have so much craic together and Ciara, I miss them so much and the old days – the new days are obviously great!

“I’m just blown away thank you so much! Cannot believe that.”

Taking to Twitter after the show, Tommy tweeted: “What a send off to Karen’s 30’s!!! Our last show before the big bday on Friday! Happy Birthday @karenkostertv”.

The official Instagram account for Ireland AM shared the sweet video to their page and wrote: “KAREN’S BIRTHDAY SURPRISE.

“Some familiar faces popped up to wish Karen a very Happy Birthday this morning. And what’s a birthday video without some old photos in the mix!”

After the show, Karen was surprised yet again by her co-workers, who set up a gorgeous outdoor drinks lounge with champagne, pink and purple balloons and flowers.

Karen was moved to tears again and said: “Is this for me?”

Spotting the pink cake she added: “Oh my God, I love it! This is amazing! Jesus, this has blown me away! This is so nice!”

As Tommy gifted Karen with a bouquet she said: “It’s a wonderful team to be part of and it’s a privilege to get up at 5am [and go to work].

“People say, ‘How do you do the earlys?’ And you can only do it for a job you love with people you love so thank you so much.”
