WWE has added Velveteen Dream to the list of names released in NXT.
Dream joins referees Drake Wuertz, Jake Clemons and wrestlers Vanessa Borne, Ezra Judge, Kavita Devi, Alexander Wolfe and Skyler Story as WWE continues to cut NXT talent.
At just 25 years old, Velveteen Dream appeared to be on the fast track to super stardom in WWE. The now former top star in NXT even famously wore a pair of tights that read “Call Me Up, Vince” in a match against EC3 at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn IV. The phrase, brandished on the rear-end of Dream’s tights, was a nod to Vince McMahon possibly calling Velveteen dream up to the main roster, though Triple H went full carny in explaining otherwise.
A former WWE NXT North American champion, and winner of NXT’s 20127 rivalry of the year alongside Aleistar Black, Velveteen Dream’s last match was on the December 23, 2020 broadcast of WWE NXT in a loss against Adam Cole.
Unfortunately, by then Velveteen Dream’s career was derailed stemming from last year’s #SpeakingOut movement, when he became the subject of very serious allegations of inappropriately communicating with minors.
“Be assured I did not communicate inappropriately with anyone. A private photo of mine was shared without my consent or knowledge and I am working with a third party to look into this matter,” said Velveteen Dream in 2020, denying these accusations.
The dark cloud of controversy continued to linger over Velveteen Dream for the remainder of his frayed NXT career. Dream even became a trending topic last month after WWE announced its previous round of releases, which included Samoa Joe, Billie Kay and Mickie James, as fans continued to demand action from WWE against the polarizing NXT star.

Velveteen Dream went on to become a very polarizing figure who was used sparingly on television television over the past year. Though there were reports of Dream training at the WWE Performance Center as recently as last week, WWE has opted to part ways with its once promising, controversial star.
