A Vacaville police official said a Vacaville woman died in an early morning collision on Mother’s Day, May 8, at the intersection of Vanden Road and Alamo Drive.
The deceased woman was first identified in a social media post last week by her daughter as Juana Ervin, 43, a mother of three, and an emergency room nurse in Vacaville.
The Vacaville Police Department posted to social media a photo of a road closure on May 8 but did not issue a more detailed press release in the hours after the fatal 6:45 a.m.
The collision involved two vehicles, one driven by Ervin, the other by a driver whom department spokesman Sgt. Frank Piro on Monday declined to identify.
“We don’t know who’s at fault at this point because the collision is still under investigation,” he said.
Piro said the driver of the second vehicle collided with the driver’s side of Ervin’s vehicle.
Neither drugs nor alcohol is considered a factor in the collision, he noted, adding he could not estimate the speeds of the vehicles.
“We consider that one of the vehicles was not supposed to be there (in the intersection), but we don’t know how it unfolded,” he said.
There are no surveillance camera images available from the intersection, said Piro.
Friends of the family have started a gofundme.com fundraiser in memory of Juana Andrea Ervin, which includes the headline “ED RN, mother of 3, taken tragically too soon.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Officer Joe Perkins, telephone (707) 449-5200.
