Unexpected trade twist: Chris Tanev attempts to include himself in Lindholm trade!
Tanev #Tanev
Just earlier this evening, the Vancouver Canucks acquired forward Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames in return for a package including forward Andrei Kuzmenko, a 2024 first round pick, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo and a conditional 2024 fourth round pick from the Canucks in exchange for Lindholm.
The transaction dragged on as Calgary was reportedly on Kuzmenko’s no-trade list. His agent Dan Milstein had to work hard on the process in order to finalize the transaction.
On top of that, Lindholm has been flying to Toronto for the All-Star Game where he was voted as a member of the Flames. That also slowed down the process in order to get in touch with him during the process of the trade.
And now, something else that’s complicated has emerged from the transaction in which many reporters and insiders are saying that Flames defenseman Chris Tanev is looking to be included in the trade to the Canucks.
Earlier this season, Vancouver acquired Nikita Zadorov from Calgary in what was first believed to be a major trade for both Zadorov and Tanev.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to Tanev for weeks now and leading up to the trade deadline, though fans in Vancouver would love to get the blue liner back.
If Tanev is seeking a shot at the Stanley Cup, Vancouver might be the right spot.
Many have reported that while they’ve heard Tanev’s name today in links with the Canucks, it is more likely to take place in a separate deal. After all, it is expected to be quite expensive to land Tanev, who many league executives believe could fetch at least a first-round pick, plus a prospect.
The shut-down defenseman will be one of the most coveted player ahead of the trade deadline, and if rumours are true that he would want to be included in the Lindholm deal then maybe the Canucks need to go get him!
