UEFA Europa League Qarabağ 2 Bayer Leverkusen 2 Full time
Qarabag #Qarabag
This will be the third meeting between Qarabag and Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions, with the German side winning both of the previous two in this season’s UEFA Europa League group stage.
Sides from Azerbaijan have lost seven of their eight previous UEFA Europa League matches against German teams, with the only exception being Qarabag’s 1-1 draw with SC Freiburg in November 2022.
Qarabag are the first ever Azerbaijani club to reach the last 16 of a major UEFA competition. They have lost two of their last three home games in the UEFA Europa League (W1), more than they had in their previous 21 home games in all European competition before this (W10 D10 L1).
Bayer Leverkusen have won each of their last six games in the UEFA Europa League – the last team to win more in a row within the same campaign in the competition was Villarreal in 2020-21 (9), who went on to lift the trophy that season (won on penalties v Manchester United in the final).
Based on the quality of shots on target faced (excluding own goals), Bayer Leverkusen’s Matej Kovár has prevented the most goals of any goalkeeper in the UEFA Europa League this season (+4.3 – two goals conceded from 6.3 expected goals on target faced).
