BOSTON — A matchup with the Boston Celtics meant the Philadelphia 76ers could see a former teammate, Jaden Springer. The Sixers traded the 28th pick of the 2021 draft to the Celtics at the deadline.

Springer, who admitted he was shocked that the Sixers traded him, was a favorite of his teammates in Philadelphia. He is a hard worker and has a wealth of defensive potential in this league on the perimeter.

Tyrese Maxey, who had 32 points and five assists in Tuesday’s loss to the Celtics, gave love to Springer for his time in Philadelphia.

“I love that dude,” Maxey smiled. “I seen him yesterday (Monday). He came to the hotel and said what’s up. I gave him a hug tonight, and I just I really wish the best for him honestly. Of course, I hope they lose when a play us always, but just he’s worked extremely hard. I think he worked on his jumper. He worked on a lot of different things. He is a competitor, and man I appreciate him.”

Springer has new vets now: Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday and others, but Maxey and the Sixers gave the youngster a lot of wisdom during his time in the City of Brotherly Love.

“I appreciate him allowing me to be in his ear,” Maxey added. “I wanted to be extremely aggressive while he was here. Shoot the ball, play his game because he was a year younger than me, and I watched him play in high school. I know what he’s capable of doing. So I think he’s gonna have a great career and yeah. I love that dude.”

As for Maxey and the Sixers, they have to bounce back at home against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.
