Tyler Perry reveals ‘midlife crisis at 51’ and declares he’s single with viral gym photo

Tyler Perry will no doubt have a busy DM inbox after sharing a gym photo that has gone viral while declaring he is single and going through a ‘midlife crisis’.

The Madea’s Family Reunion star appears to be in a reflective mood as the end of 2020 approaches and a new slate begins. 

In the post, Tyler, 51, is seen taking a selfie while wearing workout clothes in the midst of a gym session. 

He confirmed in the caption that he is single, presumably after splitting from his longterm girlfriend Gelila Bekele, who he shares a six-year-old son with.

‘This is what a midlife crisis looks like. I’m 51, single and wondering what the next chapter in my life will look like.

‘Whatever it looks like I’m going to walk with God, be the best father and man I can be, hold my head up high, and try to look my best doing it!!’ 

He added: ‘In a world with so much sadness, please try and stay in the good! Merry Christmas and let’s look forward to 2021 bringing us peace!’ 

His post has been met with a flood of support from celebrities and fans alike, sharing messages of encouragement as Tyler navigates his challenges. 

Some of the House of Payne actor’s followers honed in on the fact he is single and available for dating. 

‘Doubt if you will be single for long!’ one follower predicted, while others began flooding his comments with their dating profiles. 

‘I don’t know if you like them older but I’m 62, single, and ready to explore the next chapter of my life as well. Sending blessings your way,’ one woman posted with a photo of herself.

Joining the queue, another admirer said: ‘Tyler Perry looking good at 51 years young… Me at 70 years young and Loving Life to the Fullest… Tyler if you ever need a shoulder to cry on… I’m only 10 digits away.’ 

‘This is what 53 looks like single and Blessed let’s hang out somewhere,’ another said, while another joked: ‘God sent me to tell you I’m your wife.’ 

Others were inspired by his honesty about his midlife crisis, with one commenting: ‘You achieved so much you are a role model 🙌🏾🙌🏾 keep moving forward never give up you give us hope.’ 

Actress Meagan Good told her friend: ‘Somehow this picture of midlife crisis is really inspiring 🤷🏽‍♀️ You look great my brother 🙏🏾 thank you for the love and light you always share with others 🙏🏾✨ #GodHasYouandHasBigPlans king. We appreciate and love you TP.’ 

Beyonce’s manager Yvette Noel Schure said: ‘You look great!!!’ 

Taking a different approach, one follower added: ‘Not midlife crisis. Just a mid-life perspective!’ 

Despite his personal challenges, Tyler is thriving professionally as he was recently revealed to be a billionaire following his huge investment in Tyler Perry Studios.

The actor was in a longterm relationship with model Gelila for over a decade. The pair were private about their romance but Tyler said on T.I’s Expeditiously podcast: ‘I have someone who’s wonderful and she’s getting her share of all of it.

‘Even my son, being in the public … She and I are really good about that, making sure at five years old, he’s protected, he’s clear about who he is before people start telling him who he is. I’m good with that.’
