K-pop quintet TXT are kicking off 2021 with a brand new job: radio DJ.
Per Soompi (and originally reported by Korean outlet XSportsNews), TXT members Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai will join the EBS radio program “Listen,” which is broadcast on Korea’s educational broadcasting network. TOMORROW X TOGETHER will start their new gig on January 10.
“TXT is an idol group that has communicated with teenagers through various activities,” producer Kang Dong Kyul said in a statement, Soompi reported. “We are sure they will be able to win the hearts of teenage listeners with their excellent empathy and talents.” The show has previously been hosted by singers such as Chungha and Jeong Sewoon, and XSportsNews previously described it as the “only radio program for Korean teenagers, where the concerns of teenagers are listened to and sympathized with.”
The members will reportedly hear stories from young people and talk about things they themselves have been through, and that definitely tracks with TXT’s own mission, continued recently on their EP Minisode1: Blue Hour. (Plus, leader Soobin has been getting in plenty of hosting practice as an MC on Music Bank.) The songs on the EP share pandemic experiences through the lens of teens and early 20-somethings, each with a sincere, empathetic approach to a difficult time.
“COVID-19 has completely changed our lives, and we wanted to tell a story that only we could tell in this moment,” Beomgyu told Teen Vogue about the EP and song “We Lost the Summer” last year. “Many teenagers could no longer go to school and hang out with each other, passing notes, sharing earbuds, and so on. It’s our story but it’s still a subject that teens all over the world can relate to. It’s the teen perspective and we wanted to address it through our music.”
You can listen to the radio show, which airs Sundays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. KST (or 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. EST Sunday), online here.
