Twitter reacts to Patrick Mahomes’ broken helmet after tough run vs. Dolphins
Dolphins #Dolphins
The Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff matchup against the Miami Dolphins has been full of intrigue. Frigid conditions and a frozen mustache stole the show early in the game, but Patrick Mahomes gave fans something else to talk about early in the second quarter as he drove the Chiefs downfield.
Mahomes ran the ball on a broken red zone play that put Kansas City into scoring position and shoved a defender before hitting the turf near the end zone.

When he made contact with the Dolphins defender, his helmet broke, sending a large piece of plastic onto the frozen playing surface. The reigning MVP played with the broken helmet before officials eventually stopped the action to let the Chiefs signal-caller swap out his gear.
Users on social media went crazy for this second-quarter-sequence and shared their thoughts about what transpired.

The Vicis Helmet is newer helmet concept, and is one of the top in all lab concussion tests.
One of the key features is the proprietary paint that is part of the protection mechanism.
Idk if it was ever tested in -4 degree weather!pic.twitter.com/K0SwT8OMq7

Brings up a great question in what are the limits of helmets in extreme weather. Like, it wouldn’t shock me if these helmets are not actually made to withstand beatings in this kind of cold. https://t.co/MILJiO1Ocl

I mean, Mahomes got hit in the head so hard his helmet cracked and a piece flew off and no spotter no head trauma check nothing

This seems uh, wildly dangerous? Not just from a “it’s not providing the correct protection” angle but like, sharp pieces of plastic getting smashed into faces, cutting arms, etc. issues. https://t.co/tOWt02TUws
