While the combat sports community was focused on UFC Fight Night 210 among other martial arts events, the weekend belonged largely to the highly anticipated trilogy match between Canelo Alvarez and “GGG” Gennadiy Golovkin, which took place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Alvarez defeated Golovkin via unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) after 12 rounds of boxing – and you can check out the card’s full results here via Boxing Junkie.

Of course, as is the case with every major fight in history, the combat sports community had a lot to say about it. Scroll below to see the reactions to the highly-anticipated third meeting between two of the greatest boxers of this generation.

Phoenix Carnavale

Good coaching from Banks In GGG’s corner. Let’s see if he uses the pep talk. #CaneloGGG3

Greg Rosenstein

Canelo cruising up 4-0. GGG hasn’t landed any significant punch so far. #CaneloGGG3

Brian Campbell

ROUND 5: Alvarez chopping away at the body with both hands. Big right hand late. Golovkin’s low activity isn’t winning rounds and doing nothing to set up power shots. 50-45 CA. #CaneloGGG3

Caposa

Golovkin looking slow. No real effective offense period. Not fun. Shutout so far by Canelo

Aaron Bronsteter

GGG looks like he has the same chance as HHH would at this stage.

Tough to watch considering how competitive the first two were.

— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) September 18, 2022

Ariel Helwani

Canelo is looking so good. 5-0.

— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) September 18, 2022

Chamatkar Sandhu

6 rounds in the bank and it’s been one way traffic. All Canelo. He’s been a force. GGG is just old and it’s showing. #CaneloGGG3

Bill Simmons

GGG-Canelo 3 on pace to be the worst sporting event of 2022. GGG looks like he’s 55.

— Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) September 18, 2022

Dan Rafael

Rd 9: GGG 10-9. He gets on the board. Landed a nice right hand, got in some good shots, a hook backed Canelo up. 8-1. #CaneloGGG3 #boxing

Aaron Bronsteter

Golovkin starting to channel his trademark aggression. Coming alive in the late rounds.

Finally becoming competitive.

Joe Giannetti

Canelo led the dance minus a few quick flashes of greatness from GGG #CaneloGGG3

Pearl Gonzalez

Bad ass fight.. Canelo came with the heat; his pressure, his power👌🏼💥 and GGG was precise with his combos.. WHEN he let go… Amazing fight, Canelo showed why he’s a legend! 👊🏼

— PEARL GONZALEZ (@PearlGonzalez) September 18, 2022

Teddy Atlas

GGG was able to take the back roads enough to get to the finish line. Canelo won but not greatly impressive. #CaneloGGG3

— Teddy Atlas (@TeddyAtlasReal) September 18, 2022

Justin Gonzales

I’m not a boxing judge but I thought Canelo was more dominant than 115-113 #CaneloGGG3

Ben “Big Tuna” Parrish

Triple G looked good late. Good fight.

Claressa Shields

116-112, 115-113, 115-113 Canelo Alvarez! #canelovsGGG3 ! Fight was not that close in my eyes!

— Claressa Gwoat Shields (@Claressashields) September 18, 2022

Chris Eubank Jr.

GGG you had a great run. Come back down to middleweight & let’s fight for those belts you still have in December or just pass em over & I’ll look after them for the next couple years while you enjoy retirement… you earned it champ.

— Chris Eubank Jr (@ChrisEubankJr) September 18, 2022

Michael Montero

It’s a testament to Golovkin’s character and class as a fighter that he went the distance with Canelo, while much younger and naturally larger title holders like Plant, Saunders and others couldn’t. Put some respect on the old man’s name. 🥊 #CaneloGGG3 #boxing

Andreas Hale

Canelo is used to picking his spots and waiting for his opponent to wilt. He knew GGG wouldn’t go away and had to outwork him. That’s not what Canelo does. I was impressed by his strategy and how he put it to work.
