Twitter Reacts to ‘Succession’s’ Game-changing EpHBO
Pour one out for Logan Roy.
During tonight’s episode of HBO’s Succession, simply titled “Connor’s Wedding”, the inevitable finally happened. While mid-flight (and only 20 minutes into the episode) to sell the majority of his namesake company to a Swedish billionaire, Logan Roy’s heart simply gave out and died. The death of the conservative media mogul, brilliantly portrayed by Brian Cox, took place during what was supposed to be his eldest son, Connor’s (Alan Ruck) wedding to his artist-turned-escort-turned-fiance, Willa (Justine Lupe).
The remainder of the episode was a masterclass in slow-burn television that immediately had Twitter melting down over each scene that followed. Whether it was Kendall, Shiv, and Roman saying their goodbyes over the phone to their presumably already dead father, their oblivion in thinking to make their eldest brother aware of the news, or their demented but delicate balance of their grief and the financial future of the family company, the internet was in agreement: give the entire cast of Succession all of the Emmys now.
Brian Cox spoke with Vulture about tonight’s shocking episode, revealing that he had known about Logan Roy’s demise ahead of beginning fimling for the fourth and final season, unlike most of the cast. He shared that he has no qualms regarding his character’s fate — the show is called Succession after all.
“The explanation was that the reason was obvious. It’s about succession. You need a corpse,” Cox told the outlet. “If it was a different kind of show, it could have gone into a more mysterious frame — Is Logan dead? That kind of stuff. But I think Jesse realized it had to be the way it had to be, and he made the decision to do that.”
And so it is. Below, we rounded up the 16 most chaotic reactions to the death of Logan Roy.
