Turnbull family appeals for closure

Family continues to hold out hope for resolution of case, more than nine months after Alyssa Turnbull was last seen in Nipigon area.

THUNDER BAY – The family of a woman who went missing in Nipigon more than nine months ago is speaking out to renew calls for anyone with information to come forward.

“It’s been a long 10 months – no closure, no answers, just more questions,” said Kevin Turnbull at his South Gillies home Sunday.

His daughter, Alyssa Turnbull, was reported missing in April of 2020, after last being seen in late March in the Nipigon area, where she was living at the time.

Her disappearance has been the subject of a major investigation by Ontario Provincial Police, who stormed the community about 100 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay in April, and continued investigations there as recently as November.

While Kevin said he was not privy to current details of the investigation, he was confident police continued to work on the case.

“They’re doing what they can,” he said.

However, he believes getting answers could depend on someone with information coming forward.

“We don’t believe she’s just a missing person,” he said. “She didn’t just vanish into thin air.”

“There’s somebody out there that knows something. We need somebody with a conscience to come forward.”

The OPP have also stated they believe there are individuals who know what happened to Alyssa Turnbull.

Police have interviewed dozens of people and collected several pieces of evidence in the course of their lengthy investigation.

In November, police received tips after announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance, or information resulting in locating her

Several months later, however, the family still doesn’t have answers. Efforts of their own, such as putting up posters in Nipigon and Thunder Bay, have so far proven fruitless.

“We’d all like to move on with our lives and get some closure,” said Kevin Turnbull. “It’s a horrible feeling not knowing where your baby is.”

Turnbull is described as standing five-foot-three, weighing about 100 pounds, with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She may have changed her hair colour to purple or red.

Any person with information regarding this investigation should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their local police service.
