  • “Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES,” Trump tweeted Wednesday, sending shares of the company lower in trading.

  • President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Americans to boycott Goodyear Tires after a viral photo of the company’s diversity training went viral for not allowing MAGA-branded or “Blue Lives Matter” apparel.

“Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS,” he tweeted. “Get better tires for far less! (This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!).”

Shares of Goodyear fell more than 4% after the tweet was sent, before recovering about half of the dip.

The incendiary message comes after a photo from Goodyear’s diversity training — which prohibited employees from wearing Trump campaign or anti-Black Lives Matter apparel — spread quickly online Tuesday.

Goodyear says the policy was designed to allow employees to promote equity issues, especially in the wake of renewed protests against police and racial violence in recent months, while avoiding specific political positions.

“Goodyear is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace where all of our associates can do their best in a spirit of teamwork,” the company told Kansas’s WIBW-TV of the policies on Tuesday.

“As part of this commitment, we do allow our associates to express their support on racial injustice and other equity issues but ask that they refrain from workplace expressions, verbal or otherwise, in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party as well as other similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of equity issues.”

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday about Trump’s tweet.

Conservatives including Trump have decried what they call “cancel culture” from those who disagree with certain statements or decisions — yet Wednesday’s tweet appears to be using many of the same tactics.
