Trump claims ending Title 42 would ‘greatly speed up destruction’ of US

Former President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that ending Title 42 would “greatly speed up the destruction” of the United States, as the future of the pandemic-era policy remains in the balance.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts placed the expiration of Trump’s Title 42 policy on hold last week, as thousands of immigrants waited for the policy to expire along the U.S.’s southern border.

“Title 42 is saving what’s left of our country. Ending it, on top of our incredible, but now decimated, Stay in Mexico Policy, would greatly speed up the destruction of our Country,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday. “Both could have been put into the horrendous Mitch McConnell inspired ‘gift to the Democrats and China’ Omnibus Bill. What a disaster this administration, coupled with the almost as bad RINOS, is. Just can’t get any worse!”

The Title 42 policy allowed Customs and Border Protection agents to turn immigrants away for health reasons and was enacted toward the end of Trump’s term during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TRUMP LAMBASTES BIDEN’S BORDER AS ‘WORST IN HISTORY’ FOLLOWING BRUTAL NOVEMBER REPORT

The new post comes after a recent CBP report published online late Friday revealed that more immigrants were encountered attempting to enter the U.S. without authorization in November than any month in U.S. history. Last month, 283,189 immigrants were encountered illegally crossing the border nationwide or were denied admission at a port of entry, up from 278,102 in October.

“Two years ago we had the strongest and safest Border in U.S. history. Hundreds of miles of Walls were built, my ‘Stay In Mexico’ Policy was working fantastically, Title 42 was in full force and effect, Border Patrol and ICE were doing an incredible, tough, yet compassionate, job, and our Southern Border was, for the first time in decades, being spoken of in glowing terms,” Trump said in a separate post on Truth Social Monday morning. “People weren’t even making the long hard journey up through Mexico. NOW OUR BORDER IS THE WORST IN HISTORY, & GETTING WORSE!”

Acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller noted that the illegal border crossings mostly came from countries such as Nicaragua and Cuba, instead of Mexico and northern Central America. Immigrants from Mexico and northern Central America accounted for just 30% of unique encounters in November, compared to 53% last year.

December’s border numbers could surpass that of November after a surge of illegal immigration encounters occurred in El Paso, Texas, earlier this month.
