An attorney for former President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign who prosecutors called the “architect” of a scheme to overturn the Republican’s defeat pleaded guilty in a Georgia courtroom Friday.
Kenneth Chesebro admitted to a single count of felony conspiracy to commit filing false documents just as jury selection in his case was getting underway, becoming the second former attorney linked to the 77-year-old Trump to plead guilty in as many days.
On Thursday, fellow lawyer Sidney Powell admitted to six misdemeanor counts in the sprawling case.
For Chesebro, prosecutors recommended five years’ probation, $5,000 restitution, an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia and 100 hours community service.
Chesebro had been indicted Aug. 14 on seven counts, including violating the Peach State’s anti-racketeering law, conspiracy to commit forgery, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, conspiracy to file false documents and conspiracy to impersonate a public officer.

Prosecutors said Chesebro coordinated and executed a plan to have 16 Georgia Republicans sign a certificate declaring falsely that Trump won the state and declaring themselves the state’s “duly elected and qualified” electors.
