Tron: Ares First Look Image Reveals Villainous Red Suit and First Story Details

Tron #Tron

Tron: Ares has been revealed at last in a brand-new first look image. Released alongside new info including the full cast, the sequel to Tron: Legacy started production in January and is slated to release in 2025.

The updated suit in the film’s villainous red comes off as quite menacing with its dark helmet and black accents. The first photo can be found below along with a brief synopsis.

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings

We don’t know too much else about Tron: Ares, but we can infer that the red suit means that these characters are specifically loyal to the Master Control Program, the rogue AI created by Walter Gibbs in the original movie. Notably, the villains in Tron: Legacy were red and orange.

Outside of the story, Disney confirmed that Jared Leto will be starring in the new film along with Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

Tron: Ares has been a long time coming, with reports of a sequel stretching all the way back to 2013. The film was reportedly canceled in 2015 before resurfacing in 2017. It was finally confirmed to be moving ahead in 2023 with Joachim Rønning attached to direct.

The Biggest Movies Coming in 2024

Rønning said in a statement, “I’m excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

The Tron franchise’s most recent outing was 2010’s Tron: Legacy, a sequel to the cult classic sci-fi film first released in 1982. We wrote in our review, “First time feature director Kosinski delivers thrills and a touch of heartache inside a very impressive palate of colors and noise.”

Tron: Ares is currently slated to release in 2025. For more, check out our list of the upcoming new Disney and Pixar release dates for 2024 and beyond.
