Trevor Cherry an ‘honest kicker’ revered throughout Yorkshire

Already clad in mourning veil, the city of Leeds has lost another of its football heroes. Just 12 days after the passing of Norman Hunter, the man who was signed to replace him, Trevor Cherry, has died.
A statement released by Leeds United last night said the club were “shocked and deeply saddened by the news that club legend Trevor Cherry has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 72”.
Cherry was less celebrated in some ways, but was an England captain who was woven into the fabric of West Yorkshire’s triumphs and tragedy. He captained his hometown club of Huddersfield in the top flight, won the title at Leeds United and then managed Bradford City on the day when 56 people died
