Trent Alexander-Arnold hammered for ‘criminal’ error that gifted Real Madrid final goal

Trent #Trent

Trent Alexander-Arnold was hammered by fans after Liverpool conceded the crucial goal in their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

Vinicius Junior’s second-half finish was all that separated the two European heavyweights at the Stade de France. Alexander-Arnold’s man crept in at the back post and converted Federico Valverde’s cross-cum-shot to secure his side’s 14th European crown.

Many viewers felt the Liverpool right-back was at fault for failing to pick the Real winger up. One wrote: “Conceding this goal in a Champions league final is criminal, Trent didn’t even look.” Another commented: “Trent at fault again. Awful defending.”

“Trent won’t sleep tonight after watching this back,” replied one. While a fourth joked: “Trent in a different postcode to his man.”

One comment read: “So poor from Trent… Not once did he look behind him before and during the cross.. Scandalously unaware of the scorer who was totally unopposed.”

Another post argued: “Far too easy for Real! Defensively poor from LFC! Valverde allowed to drive without being pressed! Carvajal provides a decoy overlap to create a 2v1, so he can put in a low cross & TAA caught ball watching! Vinicius has all the time in the world to put that away.”

It was anticipated ahead of the game that the battle between Alexander-Arnold and Vinicius would be crucial to the result and that proved to be the case as Jurgen Klopp’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois put in a Man-of-the-Match performance, making nine saves to keep out Liverpool’s attack. Having soaked up the pressure, the Spanish giants then took their chance.

It marked a disappointing end to a mega season for the Reds, having come so close to a historic quadruple until missing out on the Premier League by one point and being narrowly beat in their final game of the season.
