Traore sparks Wolves fightback to keep nine-man Brighton in relegation mix

Adama Traore came off the bench to spark a Wolves comeback as the home side beat nine-man Brighton 2-1 at Molineux on Sunday.

Lewis Dunk gave the visitors the lead early in the first half but then saw red in the second period as goals from Traore and Morgan Gibbs-White earned Wolves the win.

It went from bad to worse for the Seagulls after the final whistle when Neal Maupay was shown a red card for seemingly saying out of turn to referee Jon Moss.

The victory saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s men cement their mid-table spot, while Brighton are still not mathematically safe down in 14th spot.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo made five changes for the visit of the Seagulls.

Ki-Jana Hoever, Max Kilman, Joao Moutinho, Morgan Gibbs-White and Daniel Podence returned following the 1-1 draw at West Brom.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh replaced Joel Veltman for Brighton, who could secure Premier League survival with victory.

And it was the visitors who took the lead after 13 minutes when Lewis Dunk headed in Pascal Gross’ corner.

Dunk went from hero to zero though just after the break when he received a straight red card for pulling back Fabio Silva when clean through on goal.

Adama Traore levelled for Wolves with 14 minutes left after swapping passes with Silva and smashing past Robert Sanchez.

Morgan Gibbs-White missed a great chance to complete a turnaround after blazing over an open goal from 12 yards.

But there was a final twist when Gibbs-White atoned for that miss with a brilliant finish into the top corner after Brighton failed to clear.

A bad day for Brighton then got worse as Maupay received his red card after the final whistle.
