Nottingham Forest defender Omar Richards is set to move to Olympiacos on loan as he continues his quest for match fitness.
The left-back is yet to play a single game for Forest, more than a year since signing from Bayern Munich in a deal worth £8.5million.
Richards, 25, initially arrived with a fracture in his lower leg and has suffered a series of setbacks in his recovery since.
The former Reading player had travelled with the rest of the squad for a pre-season training camp in Spain, where he was expected to feature in one of their friendly games — only to break down with another minor issue.
“With him being out for so long, getting back up to the demands of a Premier League training environment, he has just got to get his body robust enough. Unfortunately, once he gets to a certain level, he keeps getting little knocks and niggles that keep him out for another week or two weeks,” said head coach Steve Cooper recently.
“We’re trying to recover and rehab the small injuries while trying to build his body to be strong enough that when he does come back in he can actually handle it.
“We’re trying to deal with that while also really building his body so that when he comes back in he can handle it, because he’s a good player. He just needs a bit of luck.”
Richards will now join Forest’s sister club Olympiacos as he looks to work his way back to a point where he is ready to resume playing regular first-team football.
He last game was in May 2022, when he played for Bayern in a 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg.
