For the first time in State of Origin history a match will be held outside of a capital city after Melbourne’s lockdown forced the game to move to Townsville. Townsville mayor Jenny Hill says hosting the game has “created a real sense of unity” in the town as Origin excitement builds. “Everyone’s just coming out, having fun, everyone’s friendly, it doesn’t matter where you’re from — even if you’re from New South Wales — we’ll still make you welcome,” she told Sky News.
