TOWNSVILLE‘S tourism volunteers have racked up more than 4000 hours this year, giving holiday-makers a deep insight into the region.

Townsville Enterprise has honoured the volunteers, who have more than 400 years of experience between them.

The advocacy group is celebrating its volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week.

Visitor economy and marketing director Lisa Woolfe said the passionate group had an amazing wealth of knowledge about the city.

“Our volunteers have supported more than 5000 bookings for accommodation and experiences across our region post-COVID,” Ms Woolfe said.

“They can tell you everything about this beautiful place we call home.”

Thais Solano said she had been a volunteer for seven years after returning to Townsville.

“Being in this industry for quite a few years, we came to manage the Sugar Shaker,” Ms Solano said.

“I came back to Townsville after some years away and decided I wanted to do what I like to do which is helping in tourism, telling them how beautiful a region we have.”

She said while it was wonderful to share our region with visitors from overseas, it was nice to see Australian’s exploring.

“Now it’s beautiful to have couples from Western Australia that haven’t been here before,” she said.
