Yves Bissouma is suspended and Ange Postecoglou has gone with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as a “ready-made replacement”, with the Dane given his first start since the Carabao Cup second-round defeat at Fulham and his first in the league this term.
There was talk before the game that Brennan Johnson was potentially in line for a recall. The deadline-day signing has missed the last two games after being forced off with a tight hamstring on his debut against Arsenal and was due to be assessed over the weekend.
Richarlison continues in the front three alongside Son and Dejan Kulusevski with Johnson on the bench.
Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso are on the bench as they look for their first minutes in the league this season, with the latter twice featuring for Argentina during the international break having been sidelined since the defeat on penalties at Craven Cottage.
Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon remain out, however, while Rodrigo Bentancur is now back in full training but remains a few weeks away from a return to action.
