Tottenham v Newcastle: Premier League – live!
Darlow #Darlow
9.45am EDT 09:45
44 min: Lascelles is down following a clash with Lo Celso, who catches the Newcastle captain around the ankle. Lascelles requires some treatment. There will be two minutes added time.

42 min: This is painfully one-sided. Ben Davies side-foots an inviting cross towards the back post but it is a little heavy and it bounces out for a goal-kick.
9.41am EDT 09:41
40 min: Son rattles the crossbar! Tottenham are knocking the ball about with little urgency, Newcastle are parked behind the ball so Son, played in by Doherty, who marauds infield from full-back, takes aim from the edge of the box and, for the second time this half, he smacks the woodwork.

9.39am EDT 09:39
37 min: Joelinton tries to bombard his way through the Tottenham backline but Sanchez eventually makes life difficult and crowds him out. Almiron then gave the ball away cheaply, allowing Spurs to break but Moura failed to find Kane on the edge of the box.

9.34am EDT 09:34
33 min: … Dier – somehow – heads wide completely and utterly unmarked six yards out. The Tottenham defender roars in despair after failing to properly connect, heading wide of a post. Spurs should be two-up. Steve Bruce is deep in conversation with his assistant, Stephen Clemence. They need to turn the tide.

32 min: Lo Celso scoops the ball into Son, who speeds into the penalty area but Hayden nips in to head the ball out for a Spurs corner …
9.31am EDT 09:31
30 min: Son rattles a post! Kane is fouled by Hayden on the edge of the box but the referee recognises the advantage with the striker managing to roll the ball across to Son. The South Korean jinks inside Fernandez before curling a delicious effort goalwards. Spurs, it is fair to say, are knocking at the door in search of a second.

28 min: Jamaal Lascelles is trying to rally the troops. “Wake up,” he roars. Shelvey tried to find Callum Wilson over the top of the Tottenham backline moments before Spurs opened the scoring, but he undercooked his pass so slightly.
9.28am EDT 09:28
26 min: Darlow saves from Kane! The striker bends an effort at goal from the edge of the 18-yard box and the Newcastle goalkeeper sprawls down to his left to push the ball away. Moments earlier, Son tried to unselfishly roll in Moura, who surely would have tapped into an empty net, but Fernandez makes a crucial block. But the attack stemmed from another wondrous ball by Kane, who came deep to collect possession and pick out Son. Kane’s artistry has been impeccable in recent weeks.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Newcastle (Moura, 25)
Lucas Moura pokes in at the back post, converting a wicked low cross by Harry Kane. His ball dribbles across the six-yard box and Moura taps home. Gareth Bale, up in the posh seats, smiles and applauds like a paying punter.

9.23am EDT 09:23
21 min: … Matt Ritchie swings in a wonderful ball towards the back post and Doherty elects to head behind for a corner to extinguish the danger. The corner is disappointing but Spurs fail to break with purpose on the counterattack.
9.21am EDT 09:21
20 min: Callum Wilson buys a foul out of Ben Davies. Clever play by the Newcastle striker. Newcastle will whip it into the box from the right. A good 30 yards out …
9.19am EDT 09:19
18 min: Son tries to thread through Kane but, on this occasion, they are on a different wavelength. Newcastle have their hands full.

16 min: Moura is overzealous in the challenge and fouls Ritchie, giving Newcastle a breather. Doherty is keeping Newcastle busy down the flank.
9.16am EDT 09:16
15 min: Darlow smothers after Kane nods down a corner! It was an awkward one for the Newcastle goalkeeper, who had Sanchez for company when he went to gobble up Kane’s tame header. Federico Fernandez managed to keep Kane at arm’s length but the Tottenham striker got something on it. The ball dropped and Sanchez was sniffing around, prompting Darlow to rush to ground and gather.

9.14am EDT 09:14
13 min: Newcastle are camped inside their own half, every man behind the ball. Come and break us down, seems to be the message to Spurs. Bruce is frantically trying to ensure Joelinton does not leave Matt Ritchie exposed at left-back.

9.12am EDT 09:12
10 min: I do like how Bruce is cajoling Joelinton to do the defensive side of the game. The Newcastle manager wants the No 9 to keep the overlapping Doherty quiet. “Well done, Joe,” Bruce says. Mourinho, legs crossed, is looking relaxed.
9.09am EDT 09:09
9 min: Another fine stop from Darlow! Hojbjerg floats a wonderful ball into the box and Kane wriggles in between two Newcastle defenders to get up and head at goal. Kane gets the better of Isaac Hayden but Darlow is equal to Kane’s header.
9.08am EDT 09:08
7 min: Newcastle get a whiff of goal … the ball is fizzed into the box but it rolls a little behind Callum Wilson, who cannot get it under control. Steve Bruce is busy barking orders down on the touchline.

9.07am EDT 09:07
6 min: Hojbjerg clips Hendrick and Newcastle get a chance to gain some territory. They have been under the cosh so far. Joelinton did well to initially snuff the ball out out on the left flank.

9.04am EDT 09:04
4 min: Son fails to beat the first man and Newcastle earn some respite. Newcastle have barely touched the ball since kick-off.

9.04am EDT 09:04
3 min: …. superb double save by Karl Darlow! He keeps Lo Celso’s left-footed shot out with a big left hand before preventing Harry Kane prodding in the rebound. But now Spurs win another free-kick out on the left flank. A concerted spell of Spurs pressure.

2 min: Doherty drives towards the byline and crosses but Peter Bankes, the referee, brings play back after Jonjo Shelvey tugged at Lo Celso’s shirt. Lo Celso will take the free-kick …

Steve Bruce speaks. In this fixture last season, Joelinton scored the only goal of the game. “Joel scored here last year,” he says. “Joelinton and Almiron played very, very well in midweek [against Morecambe] and they have grasped their opportunity. I’ll always remember it because it was my first win in charge of Newcastle – great memories and what a fabulous stadium. It’s an absolute joy to come and play here. Allan Saint-Maximin is still not 100% after twisting his ankle last week.” Meanwhile, Gedson Fernandes has replaced Moussa Sissoko on the bench after the latter felt unwell.

Mourinho talks. Asked whether Alli has been left out because of a need to rotate amid a hectic schedule, he replies “a bit of both”, whatever that means. He adds: “We start with Harry Kane, with Son, with Lucas, then we have on the bench Lamela and Bergwijn, a little bit of rotation and when the players are on the pitch, they have to try to earn more minutes and for the next match, they have to fight for that.” The Spurs manager hints that Sergio Reguilón, on the bench this afternoon, will feature against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Dele Alli is absent – again – for Tottenham. The midfielder played an hour in midweek but has again been omitted from the 18-man squad, with Ndombele, Fernandes and Sissoko the preferred midfield options on the bench. Mourinho has been at pains to point out he cannot find room for everybody.

Gareth Bale is thought to be a few weeks away from pulling on a Spurs shirt once more, but he has been speaking candidly about his return. The Welshman says he may not be “the 20-year-old that sprints 90 yards down the touchline every two seconds” anymore but he is still champing at the bit. “I love this club with all my heart,” Bale tells Sky Sports. “My energy level seems to have gone up. I think it was time for a change – I wanted a change for a little while but obviously it hadn’t been able to materialise. This club means so much to me, there have been some amazing memories and I felt like it was a good time to come back. I feel like the club is still going in a great direction and I want to be a part of it again.”
As for escaping La Liga, he insists he has “no regrets” and questions whether fans failed to take to him following a £85m move because of his personality. “In Madrid, it was a bit flat for a while. You can tell when players are not happy. When you’re not happy, it is difficult to play at your highest level. I’m very quiet, I try to keep myself away from the cameras, the media and maybe that is what they didn’t like over there. You go for a big fee, they expect these galácticos to do everything. There are always highs and lows and the lows are when you usually learn the most about yourself and you show your character to come back from.”
Gareth Bale’s love for Spurs could speed return from injury, claims Mourinho

Team news news: Mourinho tweaks things, with Giovani Lo Celso replacing Tanguy Ndombele in Tottenham’s sole change from the 5-2 win at Southampton. Mourinho suggested Ndombele, who played 90 minutes in victory against Shkendija on Thursday, remains short of fitness, saying Lo Celso is in better condition. Mourinho was waxing lyrical about Lo Celso after victory at St Mary’s when the Argentinian replaced Ndombele at half-time. Sergio Reguilón, meanwhile, is among the Spurs subsitutes. As for Newcastle, Jamal Lewis (eye) and Allan Saint-Maximin (ankle) both miss out through injury, while Andy Carroll drops to the bench.

Preamble
The José Mourinho juggernaut rolls on. Fair enough, that might be pushing it but Tottenham have won their past three matches, scoring 10 goals along the way and, better still, Steve Bruce has never got the better of the Portuguese in the dugout in 11 attempts. Tottenham’s last Premier League outing was that bonkers game at St Mary’s, where Spurs were dreadful for 45 minutes before steamrollering to victory courtesy of a Son Heung-min and Harry Kane masterclass. Newcastle’s last performance was equally emphatic but, then again, that did come in midweek against Morecambe of League Two. Joelinton scored twice to give Bruce food for thought, while an ankle complaint means Allan Saint-Maximin is touch-and-go. Sergio Reguilón could be involved for the first time for Spurs since arriving from Real Madrid but the game comes too soon for Gareth Bale, who will have to make do with being the cover star of the match-day programme.
