Tottenham winger Manor Solomon has accused Hamas of ‘blaming Israel’ after ‘killing their own people’ with a ‘failed rocket launch’ on social media.

The 24-year-old, who was born in Israeli city Kfar Saba, shared a post from Israeli news site Mako on Instagram, which referenced a massive explosion that killed hundreds of people at a crowded hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday.

Along with a picture of the blast, the post carried a statement from the Israeli Defence Forces suggesting the explosion at the Al Ahli hospital was caused by a ‘failed rocket launch by Islamic Jihad’.

Underneath the post, the Israeli international wrote: ‘Killing their own people and blaming Israel’, along with two confused emojis.

Solomon also shared a post from Israeli president Isaac Herzog, who reiterated the blast had been caused by Islamic Jihad.

‘Never before has the choice been clearer,’ Herzog wrote.

‘Israel is standing against an enemy made of pure evil.’

Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group, has denied responsibility for the attack on the hospital, which Hamas has blamed on an Israeli airstrike.

‘The occupation is trying to cover for the horrifying crime and massacre they committed against civilians,’ Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

The Gaza health ministry, which is run by Hamas, claimed over 500 people were killed in the strike.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas declared three days of national mourning and accused Israel of committing genocide.

‘What is taking place is genocide,’ he said.

‘We call on the international community to intervene immediately to stop this massacre. Silence is no longer acceptable.’

The Israeli international also shared a post from Israeli president Isaac Herzog, who also accused Islamic Jihad of being responsible for the blast

Following the blast, Abbas pulled out of a scheduled summit in Jordan with US President Joe Biden, Egyptian president Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and King Abdullah of Jordan.

The meeting was eventually cancelled altogether with Jordan’s foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, explaining to Al Jazeera that ‘there is no use in talking now about anything except stopping the war.’

Over 1,300 Israelis have lost their lives since the conflict began 10 days ago, when Hamas launched a coordinated attack on Israeli communities close to the border.

The UN, meanwhile, estimates over 3,000 Palestinians have been killed over the same period.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled the Gaza strip, which is home to approximately 2.3 million people and has been under constant bombardment from Israel for almost two weeks.

Water, food, electricity and medical supplies are all reportedly running low in Gaza.

Amid the ongoing conflict, several players have expressed their opinions.

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona offered his support to civilians in Palestine via a social media post on Tuesday, which read: ‘Defending the human rights of Palestinians does not mean you are pro-Hamas.

‘Saying “Free Palestine” does not mean you are anti-Semitic or ‘want all the Jews gone.

‘”Free Palestine” means end the apartheid imposed by the Israeli government.’

Last week, former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil called for the war to end and showed his support for Palestine.

‘Praying for humanity. Praying for peace,’ the 34-year-old year wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with two praying emojis and the Palestinian flag.

Arsenal’s Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko restricted his Instagram account after being targeted by online social media trolls that he ‘stands with Israel’.

His teammate Mohamed Elneny, meanwhile, changed his Instagram profile picture to that of the Palestinian flag.

Celtic fans, prior to their Scottish Premiership clash with Kilmarnock, held up ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Victory to the Resistance’ banners at Celtic Park.

Meanwhile, boos echoed around some sections of Wembley on Tuesday night as England and Italy players observed a minute of silence before kick-off in a tribute to the victims of the war in Israel and Gaza and to those affected by Monday’s terror attack in Brussels.
