Tottenham dealt yet another injury blow as Pape Matar Sarr leaves pitch in floods of tears during Bournemouth clash

Tottenham have been dealt another devastating injury blow after Pape Matar Sarr left the pitch in floods of tears during the match against Bournemouth.

Sarr started Spurs’ final game of 2023 in a midfield three alongside Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur – the latter shockingly starting having made a speedy recovery from an ankle injury.

And this was also to be the 21-year-old’s last game for the club for a little while, as he was set to jet off to the Africa Cup of Nations next week to help Senegal defend their crown.

Initially, it seemed that he would be leaving his club a parting gift as he opened the scoring after just nine minutes for the home side.

However, after 32 minutes he was forced off the pitch with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

As he left the pitch, Sarr’s teammates attempted to console the player who attempted to cover his face with his shirt to hide his emotion, while on the sidelines Ange Postecoglou looked equally miserable at the sight of yet another member of his squad suffering an injury.

Oliver Skipp took Sarr’s place, but all thoughts were with the Senegal star who may now miss not only AFCON but a large portion of the remaining season.

Some of the Premier League’s biggest names are set to be absent for several weeks in January and February as they take part in either AFCON or the Asian Cup.

Sarr was one of three Tottenham players set to be missing, alongside Mali midfielder Yves Bissoums and most notably South Korean captain and forward Son Heung-min.
