Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin was taken off the ice on a stretcher Tuesday afternoon after an awkward collision.

The incident occurred with 1:52 left in the third period and the Columbus Blue Jackets on a power play trailing 2-0 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference qualifying-round series.

Muzzin was chasing a loose puck in the Toronto zone when he was cross-checked by Columbus’ Pierre-Luc Dubois. He bounced off the boards, lost his balance and fell headfirst into the leg of Blue Jackets forward Oliver Bjorkstrand.
