Tornado Near Naperville: 1 Critically Hurt, 16 Families Displaced

NAPERVILLE, IL — A likely tornado in Naperville late Sunday destroyed 16 homes and sent five people to the hospital, leaving one person in critical condition.

High winds ripped through the city’s Ridgeview neighborhood, rendering 16 homes uninhabitable. As of 6:30 a.m., Naperville reports at least 125 homes have sustained damage.

The storm uprooted at least 100 trees and downed power lines throughout Ridgeview and surrounding neighborhoods, leaving at least 450 people in the area without power, city officials reported in a news release. Electricity is anticipated to be restored by midnight Tuesday, after crews replace the damaged power lines.

6 Injured, 12 Homes Damaged As Storm Hits Naperville

Just after 2 a.m., Nicor reported no gas leaks in connection with the storm.

As of 6:45 a.m. Monday, Bailey Road is closed from Washington to Naper Boulevard and 77th Street is closed at Wehrli and Muirhead.

A confirmed tornado touched down in Woodridge, near the Bolingbrook border.

The National Weather Service said it intends to release preliminary storm information by 7 a.m. Monday.
