Top Kevin McCarthy Ally Garret Graves Drafts Motion To Oust Speaker Amid GOP Tensions
Speaker #Speaker
Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) has drafted a motion to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position as Speaker, The Hill reported.
What Happened: Often known as a close ally of Speaker McCarthy Graves took this step to counter conservatives’ constant threats to oust the California Republican.
“I drafted a motion to vacate for the Speaker as well,” Graves revealed to CNN, expressing frustration over the political manipulation within the party.

Why It Matters: The move comes as McCarthy faces growing removal threats from hard-line conservatives within his conference, notably Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.).
Current House rules allow any member to propose a motion to vacate the Speakership. This development arises at a critical time, with the federal government at risk of running out of funds by week’s end.
Despite last week’s failed attempt by GOP leaders to pass a short-term stopgap bill to extend government funding, Republicans are working to pass four full-year government funding bills within the next week to circumvent a shutdown.
Graves voiced his disappointment with what he referred to as “perverted intentions” causing issues within the party, hinting at a possible shutdown due to strategic failures and disingenuous behavior.
