Tom Pickard of Solvang, 1953-2024

Thomas L. Pickard, 70, of Solvang, passed away on Feb. 25, 2024.

Thomas, known as Tom to his friends and family, was born on Nov. 22, 1953 to Elmer and Martha Pickard in Batavia, New York, and raised in Goleta.

After graduating from Dos Pueblos High School in 1971, Tom joined the United States Navy.

Tom followed in his parents’ footsteps, working at the family print shop and later starting his own printing shop on Industrial Way in Buellton.

Santa Ynez Valley locals knew Tom throughout the years as a bartender at The Mandarin Touch; an attendant at John’s Chevron in Santa Ynez; and for his Solvang-based jerky and sandwich shop in Frederick’s Court in Solvang.

Tom was predeceased by his parents and siblings Sandy, Donna and Jim.

He is survived by his children Mike Pickard and Kathy Vasquez, and four grandchildren.

In lieu of services, Tom requested family and friends to attend a barbecue in his honor.

The memorial celebration of life will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at Sunny Fields Park in Solvang.
