Tom Brady Throws Touchdown Pass to Drew Brees’ Son in Viral Video Watched 5 Million Times

In the lead-up to their Divisional Round matchup, Tom Brady and Drew Brees both spoke of the mutual respect they share for each other from a professional and personal standpoint.

The special relationship between the two veteran quarterbacks was there for all to see on Sunday night, when they shared a quiet moment away from the cameras after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints 30-20 in what was in all likelihood the final game of Brees’ glittering NFL career.

Brady and Brees chatted on the field, before the six-time Super Bowl champion hugged both the Saints quarterback and his wife, Brittany. The trio were joined on the field of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome by Brees sons, Baylen, Bowen and Callen and his daughter, Rylen.

To the delight of the kids, Brady even threw a touchdown pass to Baylen.

“We could have used you tonight,” the Bucs quarterback quipped as Brees’ son hauled in his pass in the end zone.

The exchange, which was captured by NFL Network corespondent James Palmer, immediately went viral and was approaching five million viewers mark at the time of writing.

The game in New Orleans was the first postseason matchup in NFL history featuring two opposing starting quarterbacks aged 40 or older—Brees turned 42 on Friday and Brady is 43.

At 85 years and 169 days, Brady and Brees’ combined age was the oldest of opposing starting quarterbacks in any game in NFL history across both regular season and playoffs.

While no longer at the peak of his powers, Brady remains incredibly efficient for a man seven months short of his 44th birthday. Brees, conversely, looked distinctly like a man who has lost his battle with Father Time.

The Saints quarterback completed 19 of his 34 passes for just 134 yards and one touchdown, throwing three interceptions in a postseason game for the first time in his career as he finished with paltry 38.1 passer rating.

Brees has already agreed to join NBC once his playing days are over and is widely expected to walk away from the game. If Brady was aware of the Saints quarterback’s plans, however, he kept it to himself.

“I will leave it up to him to think about that,” Brady told FOX Sports Erin Andrews after the game, when asked whether he thought Brees would retire after 20 years in the NFL.

“I think so much of him as a player and a person. I know him pretty well and he’s an incredible player and competitor.”

For his part, Brees remained non-committal over his future on Sunday night.

“I’m gonna give myself an opportunity to think about the season, think about a lot of things, just like I did last year, and make a decision,” he said during his press conference following the Saints’ 30-20 loss to the Bucs.

Brees flirted with retirement after the end of the 2019 season, before signing a two-year extension and returning for one final tilt at a second Super Bowl ring.

Speaking after the game, he insisted he had “no complaints, no regrets” about playing this year.

“I’d say this season, I probably had to fight through more than I’ve ever had to in any other season in my career—from injury to all the COVID stuff to just crazy circumstances,” he explained.

“And it was worth every moment of it. Absolutely.”
