Tom Brady or Matt Ryan to Jets is a big no for this reason, analyst says

Jets #Jets

An MRI confirmed Tuesday that Aaron Rodgers suffered a full tear of his Achilles tendon, according to multiple reports. The veteran quarterback’s season is over after registering just four snaps as a New York Jet.

That leaves Zach Wilson as QB No. 1. That is, of course, if the Jets don’t bring in another veteran at the position. Which they probably won’t.

Here’s one reason why, according to ESPN’s Booger McFarland: Everyone saying Jets should get Matt Ryan or Tom Brady. STOP IT,” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “If you were concerned about the Jets offensive line with Rodgers who can still move. You would be terrified with Brady/Ryan Zach Wilson should be there starter Get the best back up you can”

Wilson came in after Rodgers’ injury and completed 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the 22-16 win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday. The Jets will now rely on the former No. 2 overall pick to take the reigns again after a disappointing 2022 season.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after Monday’s win that Wilson will be the guy for the Jets if Rodgers is out for the season.

“I thought he was awesome,” Saleh said of Wilson’s performance on Monday. “He had a couple of big third-down throws, clutch throws, to extend drives and score points. I thought his command of the huddle, the line of scrimmage, I thought he was gritty, he was creative off-schedule, scrambled for a big one. He threw the interception and still bounced back. It didn’t snowball into anything big. We still have a lot of faith in him. I think we have proven that by keeping him here and continuing to invest in him. I am excited for him and his opportunity.

Rodgers and Wilson were the only two quarterbacks active for the season-opener, and the Jets also have Tim Boyle on the practice squad. They will now need to sign a backup.
