Tokyo Olympics 2020 golf odds, lines: Surprising picks, top predictions from model that’s nailed seven majors

Olympics #Olympics

The men’s golf competition in the 2020 Summer Olympics will begin on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. ET at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, Japan, and a star-studded field of 60 golfers will be looking to bring Olympic glory home after a 72-hole stroke-play event. None of the three medalists from the 2016 Olympics are in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics field and 35 nations will be represented next week. Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Patrick Reed will be the four Americans in the 2020 Olympics men’s golf tournament and all four are among the favorites at William Hill Sportsbook.

Morikawa is the favorite at 7-1, while Schauffele and Thomas are next at 9-1 in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s golf odds. Reed, who replaced Bryson DeChambeau after he tested positive for COVID-19, is listed eighth on the golf odds board at 18-1. Other top Tokyo Olympics 2020 golf contenders include Rory McIlroy (11-1), Viktor Hovland (12-1) and Hideki Matsuyama (12-1). Before making any 2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s golf picks, be sure to see the Tokyo 2020 golf futures bets and golf predictions from Mike McClure’s proven golf model at SportsLine.

McClure is a DFS pro who has won almost $2 million, and his golf projection model, which simulates each event 10,000 times, has been red-hot with his picks since the PGA Tour resumed last summer. In fact, his best bets based on the model have brought in more than $10,500 since the June restart, bringing in profits at tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top 20. McClure’s best bets netted over $2,200 at the Open Championship.

In addition, McClure’s model was all over Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. And at the 2021 Masters, McClure nailed Rahm’s (+250) top-five finish in his best bets, as well as Corey Conners’ (+550) top-10 showing.

McClure’s model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure is offering his top 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf predictions so you can cash in huge on sleeper and value picks. He’s sharing his Olympic golf picks only at SportsLine.

2020 Tokyo Olympics golf picks

One of the 2020 Olympics golf picks the model is high on: Chile’s Joaquin Niemann, who is going off at 25-1. He has a better chance to win the gold than his odds imply, making him a great Olympic golf value pick. The 22-year-old earned his lone PGA Tour win as a 20-year-old in 2019 at The Greenbrier and is coming off a runner-up finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier this month.

Niemann is currently the No. 26 player in the Official World Golf Ranking after collecting three runner-up finishes already in 2021. His strength from tee to green and as a putter could make him a serious threat at Kasumigaseki Country Club. Niemann ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.597), 43rd in strokes gained on approach (.418) and 23rd in strokes gained putting (.482).

On the other hand, McClure is fading Thomas at 9-1. He doesn’t even make it into the top five in McClure’s picks after a run that has seen him fail to secure a top 10 finish since March.

Thomas recorded his 14th career PGA Tour victory earlier this season at the Players Championship, joining Tiger Woods as the only players to win a major championship, the Players Championship and have 10+ PGA Tour victories before the age of 28. However, he’s struggled mightily since his victory at TPC Sawgrass, finishing T40 or worse in four of his last five PGA Tour starts.

Thomas’ recent struggles can be directly attributed to his inability to find the fairway off the tee. The 14-time PGA Tour champion enters the 2020 Tokyo Olympics ranked 174th in driving accuracy percentage (55.80), which doesn’t bode well for his chances to win a medal. Kasumigaseki’s East course has trees everywhere and some large, deep bunkers, so his lack of accuracy could get him into a lot of trouble. The 28-year-old American is simply trending in the wrong direction.
