Tigers vs Cowboys: Wests Tigers booed off at halftime at Leichhardt Oval

Leichhardt #Leichhardt

On a day when Leichhardt Oval was packed in honour of Tommy Raudonikis, the Wests Tigers have been booed off the park by their own frustrated fans after conceding five first half tries to trail 28-6 at the break.

Whatever could go wrong, did go wrong for Michael Maguire’s team, with the Cowboys scoring after two minutes, running in four more and taking a 28-6 lead into halftime.

The frustration was too much for many, and they let their feelings be known.

The reaction kicked off a debate about whether “true fans” would ever boo their own team.

It had been a disappointing half of footy for the Tigers, but the deficit could have been even greater.

North Queensland opened the scoring in the second minute from a brilliant solo effort from Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow. The centre beat David Nofoaluma on the outside, grubbered ahead on first tackle and won a footrace against James Roberts to the line.

It was the start of a bad afternoon for Nofoaluma.

The Tigers hit back through Daine Laurie, before the visitors crossed again through Murray Taulagi despite an obvious forward pass in the build-up.

North Queensland went close twice in quick succession, but Tabuai-Fidow knocked on with the line begging before Laurie pulled off a brilliant try-saver to stop Kyle Feldt scoring in the right corner.

Scott Drinkwater scored off a second kick and some lazy defence, before Ben Condon barged over from close range.

Nofoaluma was a little slow in taking a fifth tackle kick, allowing Taulagi to swoop in for his second and his side’s fifth of the afternoon.
