PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Good Thursday morning everyone!
It’s a quiet start on radar over NWFL with showers and thunderstorms not far off out in the Gulf to our south as the cold front has slid further to the south overnight. We won’t have much more than a stray chance of a shower over Gulf and Franklin counties where we are still humid. But we will have a steady stream of mid to upper level clouds cruising our skies which will give us filtered sunshine, or partly cloudy skies.
Thanks to the front sliding to our south we’re not as sultry out this morning, exception along the Forgotten Coast! In fact, it’s pleasantly warm getting the day started in the upper 60s to low to mid 70s. The best part is our humidity is much lower as dew points have crashed largely into the low 60s. Your going to feel the difference as you step out the door this morning.
With the frontal boundary to the south heading today, support for storms remains mainly to our south in the Gulf. However, we’ll be monitoring tropical moisture from a disturbance developing in the Bay of Campeche later today to return tonight and into Friday. That will bring about a return of some widely scattered showers or storms tomorrow.
Rain chances will continue to rise as this tropical disturbance moves north in the Western Gulf. It’ll likely head toward the Texas and Louisiana border as a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm. Yet showers and thunderstorms will stretch across the Northern Gulf Coast into NWFL over the weekend and into next week.
Periods of heavy rain will be possible at times over the weekend if the system heads a bit more for the Louisiana Delta. However, if it were to track a bit more toward Western Louisiana or Texas, lesser rain chances and more drier times would be expected for NWFL.
We’ll have a better idea on how the weekend shapes up in the next 24hrs, or once we get the depression to form in the Gulf.
Bottom Line…
For today, partly cloudy skies with a slightly less humid feel. Highs today reach the upper 80s to near 90 on the coast to mid 90s inland. Heat indices stay a bit closer to the actual temperature, if not a degree or so higher in the afternoon. Your 7 Day Forecast has rain chances on the rise by tomorrow afternoon and ramp up over the weekend and into early next week.
