‘Those motherf*****s really did it’: Asian American celebs condemn SCOTUS overturning of Roe v. Wade

Several Asian American celebrities reacted to Friday’s historic Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade, with some criticizing it as “devastating” and “backwards.”
With the ruling, access to abortions is no longer considered a constitutional right, meaning the individual states now dictate reproductive healthcare.
Actors and athletes took to social media to express their contempt for the overturning of half a century’s precedent on reproductive rights.
Actor and former “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi wrote on Twitter, “The right to decide when to start a family or not is a choice every individual should be able to make on their terms when the time is right for them. This freedom and dignity is something we should all right to preserve.”

On her Instagram story, Jamie Chung posted, “Sad day for women’s rights. This is appalling. We’re going backwards.”
Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim also posted on her story in a repost of The New York Times’ Roe v. Wade headline, writing, “I refuse to believe this, absolutely devastating.”
In a back-to-back Instagram post, journalist Lisa Ling wrote that “guns have more rights than women in America,” adding that it was “time to rise up.

In a separate post, she noted that there are over 400,000 foster children in America.
“Does this mean states that are banning abortion are going to financially incentivize people taking in foster kids … Texas’ system is grossly overcrowded and sends kids out of state.”

“No? Oh well, at least we have our AR15s,” she concluded.
The news was expected by many, considering a leaked draft of the decision was widely circulated previously in early May.
“Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians,” pop star Olivia Rodrigo had said in response to the leak at a concert in Washington D.C.

George Takei, who had warned that the U.S. was “beginning to spiral” in a Twitter thread after the circulated draft, posted in a new tweet:
“Those motherf*****s really did it. First they came for Black voters, then they targeted LGBTQ+ families. Now, women of America, they’re overruling Roe v. Wade.”
He urged people to “take to the streets” and “overwhelm them at the ballot box,” also adding, “they have gone too damn far.”
The news of the overturn comes immediately after yesterday’s historic decision on the right to carry a gun outside the home, continuing a trend of conservative rulings overtaking many previous progressive precedents.
