Thomas Partey: What he said last year when asked to rate his Arsenal career out of 10
Partey #Partey
Thomas Partey has established himself as one of the best midfielders in world football.
The midfielder was signed from Atletico Madrid for £45 million in October 2020 but had a disrupted debut campaign in north London due to various injuries.
He also missed the start of the 2021/22 season through injury and still wasn’t showing what he was capable of as we approached 2022.
And Partey knew it.
In December 2021, he was involved in an interview with Sky Sports and was asked to rate his Arsenal career out of 10 to date.
The reporter suggested a ‘seven or eight’ but Partey wasn’t having any of it.
He knew what he was capable of and admitted he wasn’t happy with the first 12 months or so of his career at the Emirates.
“I’d give myself a four,” Partey admitted much to the bemusement of the reporter. “I think this is when you realise you have to get better, try to do the necessary things that will make you feel good & at the end, it’s confidence.”
We should have known right there and then what Partey was capable of.

Almost from that interview on, the Ghanaian has been in incredible form.
His upturn in form saw Arsenal go on quite a brilliant run to put them in the driving seat in terms of Champions League qualification.
However, an injury saw him miss the final nine matches of the season as Mikel Arteta’s side threw away their top four spot with losses to Brighton, Southampton, Tottenham and Newcastle.
However, this season, the midfielder has been in magnificant form.
He’s remained relatively fit – only missing three matches with a thigh injury. It’s no coincidence that Partey’s absece coincided with Arsenal’s only loss of the campaign against Manchester United.
We wonder what Partey would gave his Arsenal career out of ten right now. If he can help Arsenal win the Premier League this season, we reckon a solid nine.
Partey and Arsenal have a huge clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
Win that and they really will start dreaming of a first league title since 2003/04.
The Gunners are currently eight point clear at the top of the table, with Manchester City stuttering in recent weeks.
Ironically, those associated with Arenal will be hoping north London rivals, Tottenham, can do them a favour and take points off Pep Guardiola’s side on Thursday.
But Arsenal will know only too well that injury to Partey – or another one of their important star – could see their entire campaign go up in smoke once again.
