ANALYSIS: Anthony Davis should be inching closer to returning to the hardwood but that’s still not happened. In other words, keep starting Thomas Bryan while he keeps getting minutes as a starter on the Lake Show.
Bryant’s numbers have gone down a bit in the past week of play with the center topping at 22 minutes in his last four games averaging a measly 20 MPG in that span. Getting back to the last game of December, though, and since that matchup against Atlanta, Bryant has started 11 games in the last three weeks averaging a much healthier 27 MPG as the main man in the middle.
The center has dropped his production of late but he should keep his head above water until AD comes back. He is still putting up some nightly 8-7 line to go with the odd assist and swat here and there. In January alone (11 games) Bryant has nearly averaged a 15-10 double-double stat line on a per-game basis while also contributing 1.3+ stocks (BPG+SPG).
Woj reported on Friday that AD might be back come next weekend, but we can only wait and see how that story develops. The Lakers have been relatively “good” going 6-4 in their last 10 games but they are still sitting in 13th position int he Western Conference so it’s not that they won’t be welcoming AD back and sending Bryant packing to the bench when the superstar is fit again.
Until then, though, take advantage of Bryant’s premium role and usage while it lasts.
