One of the features of Paramount’s coverage of the Champions League in recent years, whether it be intentionally or unintentionally, is the chemistry between studio host Kate Abdo and analyst Thierry Henry, who is widely regarded as one of the best soccer players of all time.
The pair have developed a relationship that many soccer fans see as that of a “work husband/wife”, thus leading to a bevy of hilarious memes about the two.
The latest meme about the pair comes courtesy of Henry himself, as the iconic former Arsenal and Barcelona goal-scorer nearly unhinged his jaw when reacting to an old video of Abdo from 2007.
With Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal becoming the youngest ever player to start in the knockout rounds of the Champions League (16 years and 223 days), Paramount’s Champions League broadcast decided to show where its panel — Abdo, Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards — were when he was born.
While Henry, Carragher, and Richards were all in the midst of their playing careers, Abdo was just getting started out as a broadcaster, and the video sent the entire crew, Henry in particular, spiraling.
To the credit of Abdo, Henry, Carragher, and Richards, their show has been called the Inside the NBA of the soccer world given the combination of insight and banter from its panel.
The 46-year-old Frenchman spent the majority of his career with Arsenal and Barcelona, while also suiting up for clubs such as Monaco, Juventus, and New York Red Bulls. Henry has also dabbled in management since retiring — managing Monaco, Montreal Impact, and the France U21 team — although he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a world-class manager.
As for Abdo, she’s been a broadcaster all over the world in countries such as England, Spain, France, Germany, and most recently, the United States. In addition to her work covering the Champions League for CBS, Abdo has also previously covered boxing for Fox Sports and DAZN.
